In the final seconds, unbridled joy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and handed the stand-in Chelsea manager a truly golden moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old in his dotage.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench was the most decorated manager of his time, a man with an unparalleled CV for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, was a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being seconded from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
